Chains for sawmill industry

INTEGRAL PART OF SAWMILL EQUIPMENT

Log processing

Log processing is the most challenging function of a sawmill with regard to conveyor chains. The chains are constantly subject to strong impacts and stress peaks. In addition, the chains become worn due to weather changes, such as heavy frost and rain.

APPLICATIONS

Log sorters, log hoists, log tables, feeding conveyors

CHAIN TYPES USED IN LOG PROCESSING

Attached M- and A-type chains, curve chains

Sawing

In saw feeding, feed-through and transportation of ready-made planks, pin chains equipped with toothed side plates are used. Lapua Chains’ pin chains are based on roller chains designed for force transmission and their mechanical structure has been developed to better meet the needs of conveyor use. Another significant improvement is the hardening of the parts.

APPLICATIONS

Log hoists, chains with roller attachments

PROCESSING CHAINS FOR SAWN TIMBER

Toothed roller chains

Sawmill ground floor

Bark and woodchip chains are usually used on the conveyors located on the lower floor of a sawmill for transporting the bark residue and woodchips into storage piles. These are usually installed as double chains, between which attachments are affixed that operate as scrapers.

APPLICATIONS

Bark and woodchip conveyors

CHAIN TYPES TYPICALLY USED WITH SAWMILL GROUND FLOOR

Cleated paired chains/paired attachment chains

Sawn timber handling

The conveyor chains used for processing sawn goods are significantly smaller but structurally more complex than the chains used in the earlier stages of the sawing process. These chains incorporate several different kinds of mechanisms, and the selection of chain types is extensive.

APPLICATIONS

Grading conveyors chains, slasher and end-trimming tables, lumber elevators, turning conveyors, sorting conveyor chains

PROCESSING CHAINS FOR SAWN TIMBER

Chains with roller attachments, lumber elevator cleated chains, chains for trimming tables, chains for feeding conveyors, grading conveyor chains, curve chains, milling table chains, raking i.e. sorting conveyor chains

Packing

E-type chains with sideplates raised higher than its plain rollers are often used in packing.

These days, roof-top chains are very popular when it comes to handling ready-made sawmill products. They can be used, for example, in packing. The cover attached on top of the chain protects the products, preventing the side plates from leaving marks on the products.

APPLICATIONS

Milling conveyors, packing conveyors, transfer conveyors

CHAIN TYPES USED IN PACKING

E-type plain roller chains, roof-top chains

Conveyor chains, sprockets and guides are the integral components of every sawmill. The sawmill chains must function with as little maintenance as possible, without unexpected interruptions .

Chain features

Secure chains are the cheapest

Our chains have 40 per cent higher tensile strength than standard requirements, starting from size group M224.

Thoroughly hardened, extremely durable pins and bushes. The internal surfaces of the bushes are also hardened.

Re-greasing holes and lubrication create significant savings in the chain’s total life-cycle costs.

Bushes and rollers are made seamlessly from tubes.

Extremely high-quality raw materials and hardening methods.

Bushes can be hardened from the inside.

Choose durability.
