Paper rolls are usually transported with lamella conveyors. A lamella conveyor consists of two chains equipped with plain rollers with bearings. Lamellas have been welded on top of the plain rollers.
There are two main types of lamella conveyors: those which transport paper rolls placed on their sides and those which transport standing paper rolls.
The lamella chain of a paper mill is a significant investment, and as such, it should be expected to last. Usually lamella chains require little maintenance, which means that their operation has to be extremely reliable.
The most significant requirement of a paper mill chain is its ability to bear great loads. With heavy loads such as paper reels, starting the chains usually causes great starting friction.
Due to friction, pressure from the sprocket will apply strain to the bearings, particularly those in plain rollers.
